# How can students log in with QR Codes?

QR codes provide a secure and efficient login method for students, removing the need to memorize complex passwords. This feature is exclusive to **SpacesEDU Pro** and allows teachers to manage access directly from their accounts.

###### Before You Start

* **Licensing:** QR code login requires a **SpacesEDU Pro** license.
* **Account Creation:** Student accounts must be created via invitation or rostering before a code can be generated.
* **Device Requirements:** Students must have a device with a functioning camera (tablet, smartphone, or computer).
* **Teacher Access:** QR codes are for student use only; teachers and administrators must use standard credentials.

Teachers can generate codes for individual students or the entire class through the following steps:

1. Log in to your SpacesEDU account and open your **Class**.
2. Navigate to the **People** tab.
3. Select the **Students** sub-tab.
4. Choose one of the following generation methods:
    * **Individual Code:** Click the **QR Code button** to the right of a specific student's name.
    * **Class Set:** Click **View All QR Codes** to generate a document containing codes for every student (one per page).
5. Use the **Print** or **Save as PDF** option in your browser to distribute the codes.

###### Security and Resetting Protocols

To maintain account integrity, educators must adhere to strict security guidelines regarding QR codes.
* **Confidentiality:** Treat QR codes with the same level of security as a password. Do not share them on social media or with other students.
* **Supervision:** Ensure students keep their codes in a secure location, such as a folder or desk attachment.
* **Automatic Expiration:** All QR codes automatically expire and reset **one year** after their initial generation date.

###### Resetting a Compromised Code:

If a code is lost or unauthorized access is suspected, follow these steps:
1. Go to the **People** tab and select the **Students** page.
2. Click the **QR Code button** for the affected student.
3. Select **Reset**. This immediately invalidates the old code and generates a new one.

###### Student Login Methods

Students can access their accounts using two primary methods:

**Method 1: SpacesEDU App or Browser**

1. Open the SpacesEDU mobile app or visit [www.spacesedu.com](http://www.spacesedu.com/) and select **Log In**.
2. Select **Log in with QR Code**.
3. Grant the application permission to access the device camera.
4. Align the QR code within the blue square on the screen.
5. Wait for the green check-mark and the "Successfully Scanned" confirmation.

**Method 2: Native Camera App (iOS/Android)**

1. Open the default camera application on the mobile device.
2. Focus the camera on the QR code.
3. Tap the **link notification** that appears on the screen to be redirected into the SpacesEDU account.

###### Frequently Asked Questions

* **Why am I seeing an "Invalid QR Code" message?**
This indicates the code has expired or has been reset. Teachers should generate a new code using the steps above.
* **Can students log in with an email if they have a QR code?**
Yes. Students can use both methods interchangeably if an email is associated with their account.
* **Do students need an email address to use QR codes?**
If accounts are created via **Rostering**, students do not need an email address. If created manually, an email is required for the initial sign-up.
---

###### Good to Know

* **Teacher Security:** Teachers cannot log in via QR code to maintain higher security standards for administrative accounts.
* **Disabled Codes:** If the QR code option is disabled for a specific student, it typically means they also hold a teacher or administrator role under the same credentials.
* **Support:** For further assistance, contact our team via the chat icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen.

| 💡 Tip: Laminate printed QR codes and attach them to student work folders or desks to prevent loss and ensure daily durability.
