How do I remove users from my class?

Managing your class roster involves adding and removing participants as needed. This article outlines the procedures for removing students, family members, and co-teachers from a class or specific Space, as well as the resulting access levels for those users.

Before You Start

  • Account Type: Ensure you are logged into a Teacher account. If you have a linked student account, verify that you are in the Teacher view.
  • Scope: Note that removing a user from a class is a global action, whereas removing them from a Space only affects that specific group or 1:1 environment.
  • Rostering: The option to reset class codes or links is not available for classes managed via SIS Sync.

Steps to Remove Users from a Class

Follow these instructions to remove a participant from the entire class roster:

  1. Select the appropriate Class from your dashboard.
  2. Click the People tab.
  3. Select the relevant sub-tab: Students, Family, or Teachers.
  4. Locate the user you wish to remove.
  5. Click the three dots (context menu) to the right of their name.
  6. Select Remove.

💡 Tip: Removed students may still have access to the original class code or link. To prevent them from rejoining, navigate to People > + Invite Students and select Reset Link or Reset Code. This will not affect students currently enrolled in the class.

Removing Users from a Space (Group or 1:1)

If you only need to adjust participation within a specific Space, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Home button and select your class.
  2. Click the Spaces tab.
  3. Select the specific Space you wish to modify.
  4. Click the three dots (menu button).
  5. Select Edit Groups (for Group Spaces) or Edit Students (for 1:1 Spaces).
  6. Make the necessary adjustments and click Save.

Student Access After Removal

The level of access for removed students depends on your school's licensing tier.

License Type

Access Level

SpacesEDU Free

Students lose all access to posts and class content immediately.

SpacesEDU Pro

Students can still view their own posts and most teacher posts via the All Work Feed.

Good to Know

  • Comments: Removed students lose access to all comments within the class, regardless of license type.
  • New Content: Students will not see any new posts or updates added to the class after their removal.
  • Data Retention: For Pro users, work remains accessible in the All Work Feed even if the student is removed from the class or the class is archived.
  • Support: If you have further questions, please start a chat in the corner of your screen to connect with our team.
