How do I create a class?

This article explains how teachers can create and configure classes in SpacesEDU.

Before You Start

  • If your school or district uses SpacesEDU Pro with Class Rostering, your classes and students may already be set up. Log in to check before creating a new class.
  • If you see an empty class called My First Class, you can rename and customize it instead of creating a new one. Click the class name and select Edit.
  • Teachers can have up to 20 active (unarchived) classes at a time.

Creating a Class

  1. Click the Home button in the top left to open the classes panel
  2. Click + Add Class (bottom right)
  3. Enter a class name and select the applicable grade(s)
  4. Choose a class avatar
  5. Click Add Class

You will be redirected to your new class where you can start inviting students. See How do I invite students to join my class?

Editing a Class

To update a class name, grade, avatar, or settings at any time:

  1. Click the Home button to open the classes panel
  2. Click the 3 dots beside the class you want to edit
  3. Select Edit Class
  4. Make your changes across the available tabs:

Tab

What you can change

General

Class name, grade(s), and avatar

Class Settings

Allow reactions, allow students to delete their own posts, activate a sample student

Curriculum Tags and Goals

Toggle curriculum tag and goal options on or off

  1. Click Save Changes

Archiving or Leaving a Class

From the 3 dots menu beside any class on your homepage:

Option

What it does

Archive Class

Hides the class from your active list. Still accessible from the Archived tab (top right).

Leave Class

Permanently removes you from the class. The class will not appear in your Archived tab.

💡 Tip: Archive classes at the end of the school year rather than leaving them. Archived classes retain all student work and can be referenced later.

Good to Know

  • You can have up to 20 active classes at a time. Archive older classes to make room for new ones.
  • A Class Space is created automatically when you create a class. You don't need to set it up separately.
  • After creating a class, your next step is to invite students. See How do I invite students to join my class?
