Can students and teachers share portfolios?
This article explains how students and teachers can generate a shareable link for a portfolio in SpacesEDU.
Before You Start
- Portfolio Sharing is only available to schools and districts using the Portfolios feature with SpacesEDU Pro.
- Sharing is disabled by default. A district or school administrator must request it to be enabled by the SpacesEDU support team.
- If your school doesn't have Portfolios yet, contact pro@spacesedu.com to learn more.
What the Share Link Includes
Anyone with the link can access the following without creating an account:
Included | Not included |
|---|---|
All posts added to the portfolio | Reactions |
Media attachments on posts | Comments and comment attachments |
Portfolio sections (filterable) | Portfolio description or admin-added attachments |
Summary statement (if added) |

Security and Privacy
Portfolio share links are public. Anyone with the URL can access the portfolio content. Follow these two practices:
- Share carefully. Only send the link to individuals or organizations you trust. Never post it publicly if the portfolio contains private information or photos.
- Post carefully. Even when sharing with trusted parties, avoid including sensitive personal information (addresses, phone numbers) in posts.
Sharing a Portfolio as a Student
- Log in and click Home if needed to reach the home screen
- Click Portfolios at the top of the screen
- Open the portfolio you want to share
- Click the Share button (three interconnected dots) at the top right
- Click Copy Link
- Paste the link into an email, application form, or any other platform

District Settings
Because portfolio sharing exposes student content to the public internet, it is disabled by default for all districts, even those with the Portfolios feature enabled.
To enable it, contact the SpacesEDU support team with approval from your lead administrator.
Setting | Details |
|---|---|
Who can enable it | SpacesEDU support team only, at the district or independent school level |
Who it applies to | Both students and teachers (cannot be enabled for teachers only) |
Default grade scope | All grades, including students with no grade set |
Optional grade restriction | Can be limited to specific grades on request. Students in excluded grades will not see the sharing option. |
Good to Know
- Share links expire after 10 months. Click Reset Expiration in the sharing menu to extend.
- It is not currently possible to disable student access to the share link while keeping it active for teachers only.
- If the Share button is not visible, confirm that Portfolio URL Sharing has been enabled for your school or district.
