Portfolio Insights Guide
The Portfolio Insights hub is a high-level analytics dashboard for District and School Administrators. It aggregates data from across schools to provide district-wide visibility into competency development and Portfolios adoption. The Portfolio Insights Hub is available to Schools/Districts that license SpacesEDU Pro + Portfolio Templates.
For District and School Administrators that are overseeing Portrait of a Graduate, Competency-Based Education (CBE) frameworks, and capstone projects, the Portfolio Insights Hub helps guide implementation and reporting:
- District-wide visibility: No more guessing. Admins can see real-time implementation across schools.
- Evidence of learning: Shifts the conversation to evidence-based student growth.
- Alignment: Directly maps SpacesEDU activity to district-wide initiatives (e.g., tracking how many students are demonstrating "Critical Thinking" or "Collaboration").
Accessing the Portfolio Insights Hub
Who has access?

How can it be accessed?
The Portfolio Insights Hub has two access points via the Admin Dashboard: directly below Engagement & Insights data as well as the Insights & Reports navigation tab.
Data Insights
A number of valuable insights can be accessed in the Portfolio Insights Hub, but first ensure that you’ve filtered the data that you’d like to access. Some data-points are only available if a Competency Framework has been activated in your District Settings via the SpacesEDU Support Account. For more information on the Competency Framework, please reference the Competency Framework Guide.
Filtering
- A data refresh is available every 15 minutes, but the you need to click the refresh button to update the data.
General Insights
- Self-Assessment Rate only appears as a General Insight if filtered by a Competency Framework Portfolio.
- Self-assessment refers to student self-assessment of Posts.
- Posting Engagement % is based on the percentage of students who have an available Portfolio that have created at least one Post; it is not based on the percentage of students that have an active portfolio.
School Engagement Rankings
School Engagement Rankings provide a window into the overall adoption of two different features; Post creation and self-assessment at individual schools. This can help guide next steps for leadership teams to strategically meet implementation goals by building upon success strategies at individual school sites.
- Self-Assessment % data only appears if a Portfolio associated with a Competency Framework is selected.
- Self-assessment refers to student self-assessment of Posts.
Post Volume by Month x Competency/Section and Post Volume Over Time
Post Volume by Month x Competency/Section and Post Volume Over Time is a great indicator of documentation and reflection distribution. Time of year, types of class, and curricular standards may influence these numbers, but if a select competency continually has low numbers, this could be an indication that additional resources are needed to prompt/inspire student engagement with the competency.
Posts by Section/Competency
Overview of posts and student self-assessment of posts across all sections/competencies
- Most Common Proficiency, Proficiency Scale data, and filtering By Proficiency only appears if a Portfolio associated with a Competency Framework is selected.
- Assessment in this data point refers to student self-assessment of Posts.
Tracking Post distribution and student self-assessment patterns by Section/Competency is a great metric for reporting in addition to driving conversations on supporting students with competency documentation.
Posts vs. Self-Assessment Gap
Comparison of Post Submission and Self-Assessment activity across months
- This chart only appears if a Portfolio associated with a Competency Framework is selected.
- Self-assessment refers to student self-assessment of Posts.
Posts vs. Self-Assessment Gap can assist leadership teams in determining if self-assessment goals are being met at the school/district level.
Teacher Assessment by Section/Competency
Proficiency distribution by section measurement (Teacher assessment)
This chart appears if:
- Competency Framework or Portfolio Measurement is activated in District Settings via the SpacesEDU Support Account.
- Teacher Assessment is activated in the Portfolio Template(s).
- Section/Competency Measurement has been applied to at least one Section/Competency in a student’s Portfolio by a Teacher or Admin.
Speaking to Value:
- Alignment: Do patterns in student self-assessment align with trends in teacher measurement of Sections/Competencies?
- Expectation setting: Is overall Section/Competency measurement expected? If so, is it happening? What’s the expectation for Sections/Competencies that don’t meet proficiency? (ongoing assessment, opportunities for reassessment)
- Reporting: What should be reported to the learning community at the school and district-level?

- The distance from the center of the Teacher Assessment Map is the average proficiency value teachers have applied to that Section/Competency.
